What is EMDR? Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Using eye movements that mimic REM sleep, the brain and body are able to connect on a deeper level, allowing for traumatic memories of events to be processed, thereby decreasing the intensity of feelings, and sensations created by the traumatic event, moving toward resolution.

What is Child Centered Play Therapy

What is Child Centered Play Therapy

Play is a child's language and through play, children are able to express themselves and the trauma they have experienced.

Through play, a beautiful relationship emerges between child and therapist that is based on unconditional positive regard, attunement, voice and choice, and provide opportunities for children to make decisions and learn boundaries.

Child Centered Play Therapy is learning how to build relationships with children.  It incorporates 9 key elements:

  • Fostering the building of relationships with children
  • Child leads the entire session
  • Guiding the development of child's strengths
  • Responding vs Reacting to accidents within the play room
  • Building self- esteem
  • Handing responsibility over to the child
  • Participating in unstructured play with the child
  • Empowerment
  • Working with reluctance to leave the playroom

What is Polyvagal Theory?

What is Polyvagal Theory?

Polyvagal Theory is an intentional way of doing and being in our world.  It is a new way of learning how to befriend your nervous system.  Through practices of movement, breathwork, music, play, and harmonizing with nature, safety and connection are allowed to blossom.  The body learns how to feel safe and connected.  Resilience is built within the nervous system.
